Part 3 – flover ANALYSIS
3.1 Gender x Bias
In total, 49.2% of our flover respondents are male, 43.3% are female and 4.7% are non-binary.
Saerom and Jisun are the queens for males, with Saerom getting the highest number of male fans (50 votes) and Jisun having the highest proportion of male fans with 69.6%. Jiheon and Gyuri also had a high ratio of male fans with 64.2% and 59.2% respectively.
Hayoung and Chaeyoung are the most popular among female flovers. Hayoung has the highest number of female fans with 50 votes and Chaeyoung has the highest proportion of female fans with 69.2%. Seoyeon and Jiwon are also slightly more popular among female flovers with 52.6% and 51.2% respectively. The other five girls have more male than female fans. The fans who equally love all members also have a male majority.
3.2 Sexuality x Bias
In total, 60.9% of our flover respondents are straight and 29.5% are LGBTQ. Interestingly, 189 of LGBTQ flovers are female, while only 27 are male.
Saerom and Nagyung are the most popular for straight fans. Saerom gets the highest number of straight fans with 60 votes and Nagyung has the highest proportion of straight fans with 70.7%. Gyuri closely follows Nagyung with 69.6%.
Hayoung and Chaeyoung are LGBTQ flovers’ favorites. With 43 votes, Hayoung has the highest number of LGBTQ flovers who bias her and an equal number of straight flover fans. Chaeyoung is the true queer favorite, being the only member with more LGBTQ (46.7%) than straight fans (40%).
3.3 Age x Bias
There are two age groups who strongly prefer one member over the others. With 29 votes, Hayoung is more than twice as popular among 14-17 year old fans than her fellow members, who average out on 14 votes each. Similarly, Saerom gets 34 votes among 22-25 year old fans while the other members only get up to 21 votes. The other age groups don’t show any strong preferences for one particular member.
Fans over the age of 30 show a preference for Jisun (12 votes), Hayoung and Gyuri (both 9 votes), and Saerom (8 votes), but shy away from the four youngest members and the chaotic whirlwind that is Park Jiwon.
3.4 Region x Bias
The different countries our respondents reside in were divided into several regions: Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America and Oceania. Africa was not included as the continent only had 2 respondents. We also excluded responses that picked all members as their bias, leaving a population size of 650. To interpret the data, we’ve considered two factors:
3.4.1 Overall Member Popularity By Region
Hayoung ranks as the most popular member in three regions: Oceania (27.3%), Europe (24.8%) and North America (19.5%). She’s at least twice as popular as any other member in Europe! Saerom takes the top spot for the remaining regions: Asia (18.2%) and Latin America (18.2%). The second most popular member varies per region, with Europe coming at a 4-way tie with Saerom, Jiwon, Jisun and Seoyeon (12.4% each).
3.4.2 Regional Popularity Distribution Per Member
Most of the members have the highest percentage of fans in Asia and follow a regional popularity pattern: Asia > North America > Europe > Latin America > Oceania. This can be attributed to the total number of respondents per region. Hayoung, Gyuri and Chaeyoung don’t follow this pattern. Hayoung is significantly more popular in the West than her fellow members. On the other hand, Gyuri is significantly more popular in Asia than in other regions, and Chaeyoung is adored by Latin American fans.
